pp-movie-goat skill: TMDb movie and TV search with OMDb ratings, where-to-stream checks, filmographies and a local watchlist via a CLI.

Security Reviewed

Instruction-only skill for a third-party TMDb/OMDb CLI that reads movie data with your keys and stores state locally.

Install TMDB Movies in Google Antigravity

Antigravity loads skills from .agents/skills/ in your project or ~/.gemini/config/skills/ for all projects (official docs). Full guide

EasiestOption 1: paste this to your Antigravity agent
Install the "TMDB Movies" skill for Google Antigravity.
Follow the steps at https://www.antigravityskills.org/install/tmdb-movies.md (source: https://github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library/tree/main/cli-skills/pp-movie-goat).
Before running anything, show me what you will download and whether it includes scripts, and wait for my OK.
Install it into this project (.agents/skills/) unless I say global. When done, check that Antigravity lists it as an installed skill.

The agent reads the install file, shows you what it will download and waits for your OK.

Option 2: install it yourself
  1. 1. Clone the source repo
    git clone --depth 1 --filter=blob:none --sparse https://github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library /tmp/printing-press-library && git -C /tmp/printing-press-library sparse-checkout set cli-skills/pp-movie-goat

Sparse checkout: the repository holds 574 skill folders, you only need this one.

  2. 2. Copy into this workspace (project skill)
    mkdir -p .agents/skills && cp -r /tmp/printing-press-library/cli-skills/pp-movie-goat .agents/skills/pp-movie-goat

Run this from your project root. Antigravity reads workspace skills from <project>/.agents/skills/<folder>/.

  3. 3. Or install globally (all projects)
    mkdir -p ~/.gemini/config/skills && cp -r /tmp/printing-press-library/cli-skills/pp-movie-goat ~/.gemini/config/skills/pp-movie-goat

Use this instead of the previous step if you want the skill in every workspace. Antigravity reads global skills from ~/.gemini/config/skills/<folder>/.

  4. 4. Install the CLI and save your key
    npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install movie-goat --cli-only && movie-goat-pp-cli auth set-token

The skill does nothing without the binary on PATH. Get a free TMDb v3 key at themoviedb.org/settings/api.

  5. 5. Check that Antigravity sees it

Start a new Antigravity agent session in this workspace and ask "What skills do you have?" (in the Antigravity CLI you can also run /skills). pp-movie-goat should be listed.

The README does not mention Antigravity by name (it lists OpenClaw, Hermes, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor); the copy steps above use Antigravity's standard skill folders. OMDB_API_KEY is optional.

Using Claude Code, Cursor or Codex? See other assistants below.

What is TMDB Movies?

pp-movie-goat is a skill for movie and TV fans who want an agent to answer "what should I watch" questions with real data: it drives movie-goat-pp-cli, a Go command-line tool built on the TMDb API (plus optional OMDb ratings), to search titles, check where something streams, compare two films, list a director's rated filmography, plan a franchise marathon and keep a local SQLite watchlist. It is not made by TMDb; it was printed by Trevin Chow for the Printing Press Library. What we counted at commit 7638ad4: the skill folder is a single SKILL.md (449 lines, 20,597 bytes) that the repo marks as a generated mirror of library/media-and-entertainment/movie-goat/SKILL.md; the CLI it drives is 80 Go source files plus 11 test files, with 5 direct Go dependencies (cobra, pflag, go-toml, modernc.org/sqlite and mcp-go), so the watchlist uses a pure-Go SQLite and the same module also builds an MCP server. The Printing Press Library has 574 cli-skills folders at that commit; pp-movie-goat is one of them, and steam-library on this site comes from the same library.

How to use TMDB Movies?

Install the skill and the CLI (npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install movie-goat), save a free TMDb v3 key with movie-goat-pp-cli auth set-token (and optionally an OMDb key with auth set-omdb-token), then ask in plain words, e.g. "what should I watch tonight on Netflix" or "compare Inception and Tenet". The skill tells the agent to check movie-goat-pp-cli --version first and not to run any command until the binary is on PATH; commands are run with --json or --agent for machine-readable output.

Key features of TMDB Movies

  • ✓tonight: trending titles filtered by your streaming providers, mood and runtime
  • ✓ratings: TMDb plus IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic (with OMDb key)
  • ✓versus: side-by-side comparison of two titles incl. cast, runtime and providers
  • ✓career and collaborators: rated filmographies and recurring collaborators
  • ✓marathon: franchise watch order with total runtime and breaks
  • ✓Local SQLite watchlist that flags titles now streamable on your services

When to use TMDB Movies

  1. 1Picking a movie to watch tonight from services you have
  2. 2Checking where a title is streaming in your region
  3. 3Getting a director's or actor's rated filmography
  4. 4Planning a franchise marathon

Installation & Setup Guide

Agent Rules / Prompt Setup

Follow these steps (taken from the project's own docs) to configure TMDB Movies in your development environment.

Step 1: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor (focused skill)claude / codex / cursor
npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library/cli-skills/pp-movie-goat -g -y

Source: repository README, "Agent-native discovery" and "Focused skills" sections, which name OpenClaw, Hermes, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor as harnesses for npx skills add. The skills CLI picks each agent's folder.

Step 2: CLI plus skill in one stepany
npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install movie-goat

Source: README, "Discover and install": pulls the Go binary and the focused skill; add --cli-only or --skill-only for one half. Binaries go to ~/.local/bin on macOS/Linux.

Step 3: Save your TMDb keyany
movie-goat-pp-cli auth set-token

Source: SKILL.md command reference. Stores the key in ~/.config/movie-goat-pp-cli/config.toml; TMDB_API_KEY in the environment also works.

Step 4: Claude Code MCP (optional)claude
claude mcp add -e TMDB_API_KEY=<your-tmdb-key> -e OMDB_API_KEY=<your-omdb-key> movie-goat-pp-mcp -- movie-goat-pp-mcp

Source: SKILL.md / README "Binary-only install". Needs go install github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library/library/media-and-entertainment/movie-goat/cmd/movie-goat-pp-mcp@latest first.

Usage Example & Verification

Prompt / Request Example
1) README example (SKILL.md trigger phrase): "What should I watch tonight?"
-> What happens: the agent runs movie-goat-pp-cli tonight with your providers and region, e.g. tonight --mood thriller --max-runtime 120 --providers netflix, max --region US --json, and returns a shortlist of trending titles streaming on those services.

2) README example (SKILL.md, remake-aware resolution): movie-goat-pp-cli ratings "Sabrina" --year 1954 --json
-> What happens: TMDb would pick the 1995 remake for "Sabrina"; the CLI flags the title as ambiguous (stderr notice plus meta.ambiguous in the JSON) and --year pins the 1954 film. IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic columns appear only if OMDB_API_KEY is set.

3) Our example: "Plan an Avengers marathon in release order with a break every 4 hours."
-> What happens: the agent maps this to marathon "The Avengers" --order release --breaks-every 240 --json and reads back the watch order and total runtime.
Installation Confirmation Method

Run movie-goat-pp-cli --version and movie-goat-pp-cli auth status in a terminal; then ask "What skills do you have?" in Antigravity (Antigravity CLI: /skills) and look for pp-movie-goat.

Instruction-only skill for a third-party TMDb/OMDb CLI that reads movie data with your keys and stores state locally.

Full review: scope, findings, risks
Audit Scope:cli-skills/pp-movie-goat/SKILL.md (full), repository README.md (install sections), library/media-and-entertainment/movie-goat/go.mod, LICENSE, file list of the module, URL and os/exec grep over internal/ and cmd/ at commit 7638ad4. Both paths are unchanged at HEAD 985f5d7 (checked 2026-10-13). Go code was grepped, not read line by line; nothing was executed.
Key Findings:Skill is instructions only (allowed-tools: Read Bash) CLI hosts: api.themoviedb.org, www.themoviedb.org, omdbapi.com os/exec only in internal/mcp/cobratree (MCP server calling the CLI) Needs TMDB_API_KEY; optional OMDB_API_KEY; keys saved to ~/.config/movie-goat-pp-cli/config.toml (0600) Feedback stored locally in ~/.movie-goat-pp-cli/feedback.jsonl unless an endpoint is configured
Identified Operational Risks & Permissions:API keys sent as query parameters Installer pulls a third-party Go binary

cli-skills/pp-movie-goat/SKILL.md is a generated mirror of library/media-and-entertainment/movie-goat/SKILL.md and holds only usage instructions; it states the CLI exposes read-only commands toward remote services. A grep of library/media-and-entertainment/movie-goat/internal shows requests to api.themoviedb.org and omdbapi.com; other URLs are examples or GitHub links. os/exec appears only in internal/mcp/cobratree for the MCP server. Keys come from TMDB_API_KEY / OMDB_API_KEY or ~/.config/movie-goat-pp-cli/config.toml (mode 0600), and the TMDb key is sent as a query parameter. Feedback is written to ~/.movie-goat-pp-cli/feedback.jsonl and only sent if MOVIE_GOAT_FEEDBACK_ENDPOINT is set and sending is enabled.

Operational Notes & Known Limitations

Known Limitations

  • •Requires the movie-goat-pp-cli binary (npx installer, or go install with Go 1.26.6+ per the SKILL.md)
  • •Requires a TMDb v3 API key (TMDB_API_KEY); without an OMDb key you only get TMDb ratings
  • •The TMDb key is sent as a query parameter, so it can appear in proxy or server logs
  • •Read-only toward TMDb and OMDb: no rating, list or account changes on remote services (per the SKILL.md); not for box-office tracking or review sentiment
  • •Third-party tool, not made or endorsed by TMDb

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the TMDB movies skill safe?

The SKILL.md is instructions only (allowed tools: Read and Bash). In our static review the CLI only contacts api.themoviedb.org and www.omdbapi.com with your keys, stores keys in ~/.config/movie-goat-pp-cli/config.toml (mode 0600) and keeps feedback local unless you set MOVIE_GOAT_FEEDBACK_ENDPOINT. Shell-outs (os/exec) appear only in the MCP server code that calls the CLI.

How do I install the TMDB movies skill in Antigravity?

Sparse-clone mvanhorn/printing-press-library (cli-skills/pp-movie-goat), copy that folder to .agents/skills/ or ~/.gemini/config/skills/, install movie-goat-pp-cli, run auth set-token with your TMDb key and check by asking "What skills do you have?" (Antigravity CLI: /skills).

Do I need an API key?

Yes, a free TMDb v3 key. An OMDb key is optional and adds IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic ratings.

What if a title has remakes?

The CLI warns when a title matches several well-rated films and lets you pin one with --year, a "Title (YYYY)" suffix or the TMDb id.
